For years scientists have wondered about the existence of water on the moon. In November 2009, NASA announced that water ice has indeed been found. The discovery came after the success of a $75 million mission to crash the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, into a shadowed region near the moon's south pole, a place that is hundreds of 3)degrees below zero. The LCROSS 4)gathered data, which showed that about 24 gallons of water have been found, and discoveries in other areas are expected.
